Component 1B is one of the most important aspects I believe. 1B is getting to know your students; their likes and their dislikes, where they stand educationally, and even their goals and aspirations so that you may aid them in achieving these dreams. This is vital because by knowing your students you will be able to help them have optimal learning and take much more than just facts away from the classroom. Also, if students have a disability, for example such as a hearing or sight impairment, then you will know how to adjust your lesson plan or preplan notes so that the student's needs are met and they can participate as much as the other students.
The elements of 1B consist of knowledge of child and adolescent development, knowledge of the learning process, knowledge of students' skills, knowledge, language proficiency, knowledge of students' special needs, and knowledge of students' interests, cultural heritage, and knowledge of students' special needs . Overall, these are important because these elements hint to educators what the influences are of learning interests, special needs, and learning styles. Some artifacts used to show competency with Component 1B include family history projects, surveys about the students' interests, any additional work/ accommodations done for students who have a disability or need, or emailing news letters to parents for feedback to get to know them.
*All of the answers are based on Danielson, C. (2007). Enhancing professional practice a framework for teaching (2nd ed.). Alexandria, Va.: Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
