When reflecting on my Digital Portfolio after completing my math story, there were various components that I found the story would fit under. Component 1A, Demonstrating Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy was the best fit for placement though. Component 1A is focused on the actual material educators are imparting to their students. In this Component of the Danielson teaching method the value placed on the educator having a firm understanding and mastery of their subject and the aligning pedagogy is vital. (Pedagogy is the method and practice of teaching, especially as an academic subject or theoretical concept.) A reason it is so vital is because students may have been mislead in the past about a concept and the educator must recognize this and correct the mistake. Another reason is so that the educator may properly link certain subjects through the proper pedagogies and make sure the students have the proper skills to be learning and mastering their subjects
There are three elements of Component 1A. Knowledge of content and the structure of the discipline, knowledge of prerequisite relationships, and knowledge of content related pedagogy are the three elements vital to mastering 1A. Some artifacts used by educators to show competency with component 1A consist of, but are not limited to: a list of content-area courses, workshops, webinars, or online courses taken or attended, records of skype chats participated in with fellow educators, list of presentations on the subject matter, a prerequisite survey, and any evidence that the educator has made in order to stay up to date and to improve mastery learning efficiency.
The original math story fits into this content due to it's alternative nature. A teacher would have to be very familiar with the content they are teaching in order to teach it in the form of a story. This also leads the classroom into focusing on Universal Design and Best Practice. While teaching the teacher can have manipulates out and the students can pick what they need to learn best. This will also show evidence that the teacher is keeping up to date on the latest manipulates for their students.
