Instruction is the main theme of the third Domain in Danielson's framework of teaching. This quadrant consists of five components that are all of equal impact. The first is Component 3A, Communicating with Students. This component consists of expectations, giving instructions both orally and written, and explanations. How one communicates to their students makes a world of difference! See my write up for Component 3A here!
The next component, Component 3B, is all about how to use question and discussion techniques. This component can create true leaders and help students answer critical thinking questions higher up in the Blooms taxonomy. The full write up can be found here.
Component 3C is centered around how to engage students in learning. This can be done through the four elements in this component, these include: activities and assignments, grouping of students, instructional materials, and resources, and structure and pacing. The penultimate component of Domain Three is Component 3D, Using Assessment in Instruction. This tool favors programs that can give educators immediate feedback. This is also important in a way for the educator to evaluate themselves, by being able to observe what techniques work and what to avoid when planning a lesson. This information and more can be found on my write up of Component 3D here.
Component 3E is also known as Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness. I believe that this component will show the students that the educator truly cares and is not stuck to a government agenda, but is there for the students. This Domain is important because it can make all the difference in a student's learning experience and set the up for ultimate success.
