Component 4E, Growing and Developing Professionally, parallels perfectly with Component 4D, Participating in a Professional Community. To participate in a professional community one needs to have grown and developed professionally. Once they reach this level, Component 4E becomes applicable through the educator making sure that they collaborate with other teachers for advice and maintain and grow their knowledge of their content area. Component 4E is essential in the field of education because in order to create a symbiotic relationship in the school teachers must give aid and advice to each other, also this growth is required at all teaching jobs.
The three elements in Component 4E include the following...1. Enhancement of content knowledge and pedagogical skill, 2. Receptivity to feedback from colleagues, and 3. Service to the profession. Some artifacts that can be used to assist/ show competency in this area include things such as Personal Learning Network in which the educator participates in "ed-chats", a list of previously attended "Ed Camps", or even emails that show that teachers are collaborating.
